Iron exhibits strong ferromagnetism, with excellent plasticity, thermal conductivity, and ductility.
Its surface has a lustrous silver-gray appearance; however, when exposed to air, it reacts with oxygen and moisture to form hydrated iron oxide, commonly known as rust.
It is widely used in machine tools, railway tracks, automobiles, ship structures, reinforcing steel bars, and load-bearing construction structures.
